Gingivitis is the inflammation of gums and is caused by bacteria. The most common characteristics of gingivitis are bright red swollen gums and bleeding after brushing.
Its treatment is based on deep dental cleaning, oral hygiene instructions and reexamination of the patient.
Periodontitis is a later stage of gingivitis and is an inflammation, which affects all periodontal tissues.
Its main characteristics are bleeding gums, loss of tissues, recession of the root, mobility of the teeth, loss of the bone and in the final stage, the loss of the teeth.
Its treatment involves radical abrasion, oral hygiene instructions, reexamination of the patient and, in more advanced cased, referral to a specialized periodontist for the application of operating techniques.
